The interim President of the Party of European Socialists (PES), Sergey Stanishev, will continue to lead the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) after being re-elected as chairman for the third time gaining over 77% of the votes.

Italian investors are likely to receive a welcome message from UAE to take their initiatives to the Middle Eastern country. The newly elected President of the Italian Business Council in Abu Dhabi, Alberto Nencha, last week announced that his efforts would remain focused on bringing Italian companies to the UAE as also on encouraging UAE companies to find suitable investment scope in Italy.

The Greek president, Karolos Papoulias, called a new meeting of the leaders of largest four political parties that gained access to the Parliament in last Sunday's election. On May 11, an anarchist group belonging to the so-called "FAI Informal Anarchists Federation's 'Olga Cell', claimed responsibility for the shooting of Italian nuclear company Ansaldo's boss Roberto Adinolfi in the northwestern port city of Genoa earlier this week.
 
The group claim responsibility for attacking Ansaldo Nucleare's CEO -who was shot in the leg by a gunman on a motorbike-  by a letter sent to the Italian daily Corriere della Sera.

After being elected the fifth president of the republic since Hungary's transition to democracy on 2 May in a secret ballot by 262 votes ex-MEP János Áder officially entered office on 10 May.

While Hungary's presidency is largely ceremonial, the head of state has the power to send bills back to Parliament for reconsideration or refer them to the Constitutional Court.  Thus, he will have the power to shape a nation that has been through the wringer the past year and a half.

The incident follows international envoy Kofi Annan's warnings about his peace plan, that is the  last chance to avoid civil war. According to reports no one of the observers was wounded.

During the meeting, The Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan head Samir Veliyev stressed that the country attaches special importance to expanding ties with countries of the world, particularly with South Korea.

On the eve of Vladimir Putin’s inauguration, it appears that the new president will continue to try to draw foreign investment into Russian oil and gas assets. Putin is also likely to find some compromises in EU-Russia energy relations but hold firm on principle positions like his opposition to the so-called Third Energy Package.
