The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), has adopted its Opinion on the proposal for a Council Decision on the conclusion of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA).

ACTA's  lack of precision concerning the measures that will be taken to fight infringements of intellectual property (IP) rights on the Internet may have unacceptable side effects on the fundamental rights of individuals if they are not implemented properly, according to the Opinion.

A new agreement on the transfer of EU air passengers' personal data to the US Department of Homeland Security was approved by the Civil Liberties Committee of the European Parliament.

A new agreement on the transfer of EU air passengers' personal data to the US Department of Homeland Security was approved by the Civil Liberties Committee of the European Parliament on 27 March.

The deal sets the legal conditions for the transfer of this data and covers issues such as storage periods, purpose of the data use, data protection safeguards and administrative and judicial redress.
