NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen urged more spending for security from the EU nations and denied the Alliance's involvement in CIA's secret prisons in Europe. Rasmussen has spoken on 23 April to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and answered questions on the 2011 operations in Libya, situation in Syria and the potential EU role in Afghanistan after the 2014 military withdrawal.

Nato foreign affairs and defence Ministers are meeting in Brussels on 18 and 19 April, to discuss, among other issues, how to fund security forces in Afghanistan.
 
The two day meeting of NATO Ministers is a preparatory gathering for the alliance's strategic Chicago summit to be held on 20 May.

After talks with Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili in Brussels, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Georgia is a special partner to NATO, committed to NATO operations, to NATO accession, and to reform.
