EDPS: ACTA could threaten privacy

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), has adopted its Opinion on the proposal for a Council Decision on the conclusion of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA).

ACTA's  lack of precision concerning the measures that will be taken to fight infringements of intellectual property (IP) rights on the Internet may have unacceptable side effects on the fundamental rights of individuals if they are not implemented properly, according to the Opinion.

Switzerland and Austria have clinched a bilateral deal aimed at legalising undeclared assets in Swiss banks and introducing a withholding tax, Swiss Info reported on 13 April.

Switzerland and Austria have clinched a bilateral deal aimed at legalising undeclared assets in Swiss banks and introducing a withholding tax, Swiss Info reported on 13 April.

The agreement, which still needs approval by the parliaments in both countries, is the third so-called “Rubik” deal that Switzerland has negotiated. Germany and Britain have also agreed to similar treaties.

IoT is a future in which everyday objects such as phones, cars, household appliances, clothes and even food are wirelessly connected to the internet through smart chips, and can collect and share data.
