At least two security officials were killed on 8 May, after Libyan militia groups stormed and occupied the office of Libya's interim prime minister, Abdurrahim al-Keib in the capital, Tripoli.
 
According to eyewitnesses gunfire was heard from inside the building.

Immigration is an incresing problem for Europe, but member states are trying to sweet it under the rug for someone else to clean.

It is one in the morning and the leaders of the small tourist town of Massa Marittima in southern Tuscany are still awake. The mayor, the heads of the police, fire department, civil protection agency, and even the finance police and forest police are waiting for a bus with 44 young men who will be housed in the Sant'Anna church hostel. The men are from Tunisia; illegal immigrants.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen urged more spending for security from the EU nations and denied the Alliance's involvement in CIA's secret prisons in Europe. Rasmussen has spoken on 23 April to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and answered questions on the 2011 operations in Libya, situation in Syria and the potential EU role in Afghanistan after the 2014 military withdrawal.

New clashes between in the town of Zwarah in western Libya caused the deaths of at least 26 people on 4 April. The fighting  first erupted at the weekend between people of the Arab-majority city of Ragdalein and inhabitants of the Berber-dominated town of Zwara.

"The situation is once again critical," said Shukri al-Arabi, who runs the only hospital of Zuwarah, a coastal town 100 kilometres west of Tripoli.
