Ecofin and Eurogroup set Eurozone's directions

Fortunately Greece is the only Eurozone member that faces existential problems to stay or leave the euro area. Ireland and Portugal got last week the seal of 'good direction' by both the Ecofin and the Eurogroup. The two are meeting the programme targets to cut down deficits.

Ireland and Portugal got last week the seal of 'good direction' by both the Ecofin and the Eurogroup. The two are meeting the programme targets to cut down deficits. As for Madrid, the Rajoy government got the approval of Brussels for its bank recapitalisation plan. Last but not least Holland even without a government manage to put together a parliamentary agreement to cut down fiscal deficits.   But lets take one thing at a time.

Ecofin and Eurogroup give seal of approval to the Eurozone

The Eurogroup meetings of 14 and 15 May confirm that the Eurozone is ready to discuss with Greece some changes in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) the country has signed with its 16 partners in the single currency.

On Tuesday 8 May in Athens, amidst the political turbulences that the results of Sunday's election brought to the country, it was very interesting to watch the Greek Treasury raising easily €1.3 billion in T-Bills at an only slightly increased interest rate.

Jean Claude Juncker, the president of Eurogroup, speaking in an interview on 2 May, strongly criticised Germany and France for their policies to counter the Eurozone's debt crisis.

“It is in the best interest of Russia and Europe to grow together, to grow our businesses sustainably, and to grow together as true partners,” Luxembourg's Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade, Etienne Schneider, said at the third edition of the Global Russia Business Meeting under the patronage of Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker on April 22-23.

The forgotten seat of the European Parliament

When speaking of the one seat campaign, most will immediately think about our monthly trips to Strasbourg. These trips require us to mobilize our staff members, office equipment, EP secretariat, translators, etc to Strasbourg for five days time, twelve times a year. The monthly sessions in Strasbourg translate to €180 million and 19,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

When speaking of the one seat campaign, most will immediately think about our monthly trips to Strasbourg. The Strasbourg charade receives well deserved attention in the press, thus I will not elaborate further. I will like to address the Parliament's third, more costly seat in Luxembourg.
