On the eve of Vladimir Putin’s inauguration, it appears that the new president will continue to try to draw foreign investment into Russian oil and gas assets. Putin is also likely to find some compromises in EU-Russia energy relations but hold firm on principle positions like his opposition to the so-called Third Energy Package.

Russian president-elect Vladimir Putin oversaw the agreement, the broad outlines of which were agreed to last August, by hosting the signing ceremony at his Novo-Ogaryovo residence near Moscow.

"The government should gather its courage and fully carry out its privatisation plan," Medvedev told a meeting of government experts. "If the government doesn't do that, it means that there will be no privatisation."

Russian president-elect Vladimir Putin met Kyrgyzstan's President Almazbek Atambaev after a Eurasian Economic Community summit in the Russian capital, Moscow, news agencies reported. In the course of talks, Putin welcomed Atambaev's support for Kyrgyzstan's possible entry into the Belarus-Kazakhstan-Russia Customs Union.
