Syrian activist  reported later on May 15, that government troops opened fire on a funeral procession in the town of Khan Sheikhoun, Idlib province,killing at least 20 people,while U.N. observers were in the area.
 
"The Syrian regime committed a massacre on Tuesday during a visit by UN monitors to Khan Sheikhoun," the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said

In a EU statement released on May 14, ministers from the 27-nation announced new sanctions against Syria and warned of further actions if Assad fails to abide by a ceasefire.
 
The EU Council  decided to freeze the assets of two entities financially supporting the Assad government  and focused on three additional persons with a travel ban and an asset freeze.

Two suicide blasts killed at least 55 people and wounded another 370, in Damascus on May 10.
 
This the deadliest attack  since the revolt began  14 months ago.
 
According to the state media, two suicide car bombers with 1,000 kilograms of explosives blew themselves up in the Syrian capital during morning rush hour. The attack appeared to target a Syrian military intelligence building.

Interpol  has  issued an  international call for the arrest of Hashemi, one of Iraq's top Sunni Arab officials, on suspicion of guiding and financing terrorist attacks.
 
In response, a Turkish  senior official said on 9 May that Turkey will not extradite Iraq's Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi.

A large explosion hit a Syrian military truck escorting UN observers  near Deraa on 9 May, wounding six soldiers.
 
The incident follows international envoy Kofi Annan's warnings about his peace plan, that is the  last chance to avoid civil war. According to reports no one of the observers was wounded.

According to Turkish reports on 4 May, 3 Turkish soldiers were killed in clashes between Turkish security forces and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) at a gendarmerie post in Tunceli province.

 

According to reports, in two separate clashes two Kurdish rebels were killed during a police raid in the city of Sirnak late on 3 May.

Thousands of people protested across Syria on 27 April  and demonstrations took place after the weekly Muslim prayers in flashpoint cities .
 
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that  one protester was killed in the village Daf al-Shok in Damascus province. Another died in the Sakhur district of northern Aleppo, Syria's second city and a child was killed in the eastern city of Deir Ezzor.

According to activists on 26 April, several houses in the Masha al-Tayyar district in southern Hama were destroyed by a massive explosion believed to have been caused by government shelling.
 
At least 66 people have died, while activists in the region said 13 children and 16 women were among the dead in Hama .The new attack pushed the opposition Syrian National Council  to ask the United Nations Security Council to hold an emergency session in order to take up the issue of protecting civilians.

The US has placed  new sanctions against Iran and Syria for using technologies to monitor and target citizens in order to exercise violence against them.
 
President Barack Obama announced the new sanctions against those whom he described as "digital guns for hire", in a speech delivered at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.

The European Union decided on 23 April to impose new sanctions against  the Syrian government. The 14th round of EU sanctions on Syria aim to ban luxury goods exports and further restrict the sale of items used to repress protesters.


According to EU officials, the ban is targeting to deliver a tough symbolic blow against the luxury lifestyle of President Bashar al-Assad and his British-born wife Asmaa.
The measures were approved ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers early on 23 April.

Since 22 April, Israel is on Google Street View. It was on September 2011 when the vehicles from Street View started to capture pictures from the three main cities of the country: Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem.

Israel is the first country of the Near East to show its cities and streets online. The user can take virtual tours of heritage and cultural sites such as the Via Dolorosa and Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the Jaffa Port and the Bahai Gardens in Haifa.

According to France's Foreign Ministry on 20 April, the European Union will adopt new sanctions against Syria .
 
The new sanctions focus to cut the imports  of luxury goods into Syria such as caviar, truffles, expensive wine, crystals and high fashion goods The new measures include certain raw materials that could be "recycled to be used for repression."

According to the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the government and the United Nations have agreed on 19 Apri on the terms of a ceasefire monitoring mission.
 
The agreement outlines the role of an advance team of observers in Syria as well as provisions for monitoring the week-old cease-fire between government and opposition forces.

The group identifying itself as Raise Your Voice, is calling for better living standards and demands from the Lebanese government to bring an end to electricity and water shortages.

Kofi Annan confirmed on 11 April  that he received a written pledge from Damascus refering to its decision to end military operations from dawn on Thursday, despite renewed attacks on protest hubs on Wednesday that killed 11 civilians according to informations coming from activists.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Syria of violating its border.

 

The prime minister said that Syrian forces had fired into a refugee camp on the Turkish side of the border , injuring two Syrian nationals, a Turkish translator and a policeman.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Recep Erdogan considering response to Syrian troops-led attacks as compliance of withdrawal is setback.

Under the deal negotiated by UN envoy Kofi Annan, Syrian president Bashar al-Assad had agreed to withdraw his regime's troops and heavy weapons from populated areas by 10 April.

However, opposition activists have reported that government forces in Homs have been barraging parts of the city since early morning, and military activity is reported from other areas too.
