Putin told Obama when the latter called to congratulate him on his inauguration that he will be too busy finalising Cabinet appointments, adding that Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev would replace him.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on May 17,during a legal forum ahead of  his participation to the G8 summit at Camp David, warned  Western powers ,stating that a military intervention in the affairs of sovereign states could lead to war, even nuclear war.
 
Russian Prime Minister clearly referred  to his country's position, contrary to the Western powers,on issues such as  Syria  and elsewhere in the Middle East.

The final government line-up is expected to be published early next week, after Medvedev returns from the G8 summit in Washington. The Russian premier will replace the president at the G8 as Putin has explained that he is under urgent pressure to form a new cabinet and therefore cannot attend the summit.

On that note, Russians joke that Vladimir Putin is the old new Russian President. On 7 May, Putin took back the formal reins of power he ceded to Dmitry Medvedev in 2008, when he faced a bar on a third straight term after eight years as president.

A hacker group calling itself the Russian branch of Anonymous has claimed responsibility for shutting down the websites of the Kremlin and the Russian President, Russia Today reported. Two sites have been unavailable for at least 30 minutes on 9 May.

Anonymous tweeted “Kremlin.ru – TANGO DOWN” on their Twitter account. They also provided screenshots, demonstrating that the site was unavailable in different countries around the world.

On the eve of Vladimir Putin’s inauguration, it appears that the new president will continue to try to draw foreign investment into Russian oil and gas assets. Putin is also likely to find some compromises in EU-Russia energy relations but hold firm on principle positions like his opposition to the so-called Third Energy Package.
