Google has officially completed its $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola Mobility. The deal is the biggest acquisition for both companies and Google's transition from a search-and-software company to a consumer gadgets maker.
This action comes just days after the companies gained approval for the purchase from the Chinese government and one day after the Commission's Vice President, Joaquin Almunia, gave Google a chance to solve their manipulation problems.

Apple has decided to offer a lower-price for its MacBook Air, in order to compete with PC manufacturers selling inexpensive Windows ultrabooks this year.
This new computer will be released during the third quarter of this year, with a price of $799 (€749) Currently, Apple's entry-level notebook starts at $999 for the 11-inch model, what means a reducton of $200.

The pirate Bay, the Swedish website that hosts magnet links to movies, music and games, has condemned the DDOS (distributed denial-of-service) attack perpetrated by Anonymous.
“We do NOT encourage these actions. We believe in the open and free internet, where anyone can express their views. Even if we strongly disagree with them and even if they hate us”, a Facebook post on The Pirate Bay's profile said.

Yahoo has announced CEO's Scott Thompson resignation, after the scandal involving his credentials for the position.
The Board of Directors has named Fred Amoroso as Chairman of the Board and Ross Levinsohn as interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
Thompson declared in his resume that he graduated with a degree in accounting and computer science in 1978 from Stonehill College. Besides, the school did not offer a computer science degree until 1983, five years after Thompson graduated.

The South Korean firm, LG Electronics, plans to launch internet-enabled TV based on Google's platform in the United States in two weeks, a senior LG executive said on 7 May.
This big step comes after the giant decided to get into the cloud computing last week. The move also reflects an aggressive push to defend against the potential from Apple, which expects to unveil a full-fledged TV product later this year.

LG, the South Korean technical giant, is set to branch into the cloud computing market with the beta version of the LG Cloud on 1 May.
This new service will allow users to upload their content to the company’s servers and stream it to all of their devices. They will have access to heir stored photos and videos on smartphones, PCs, smart TVs, and set-top boxes.

Google’s online storage service, Google Drive, is finally out with the expected 5 gigabytes of free storage.
According to Google, this memory users can make this capacity bigger. For 25 GB, they have to pay $2.49 per month; for 100GB, $4.99 per month; or even 1TB for $49.99 per month. Companies can increase the memory in a maximum of 16TB.
Google Drive has launched to compete directly with other storage services in the “cloud” computing. Dropbox, SkyDrive and Box are leading the market at this moment.

Cloud computing is getting bigger as time goes by, and technology is changing our daily lives. The next big IT goal is healthcare computing, which is expected to grow in the coming years, but not only in developed countries. It also has big potential in the EU.
The global economic recession has made major suppliers of technology less interested about investing in developed countries. Funds for healthcare development in Europe are decreasing, and emerging economies in Asia-Pacific are seen as more attractive markets than European countries or the US.

According to a Chinese web portal, NetEase, Apple plans to launch a mini iPad to compete with Windows 8-based tablet.
This new device is going on sale later this year.
The blog also says the smaller Apple tablet could range in price from $249 to $299, with six million devices ready to launch.
The latest reports follow on from an article published in The Korea Times a few weeks ago which claimed Samsung had started providing Apple with new LCD technology for smaller iPads.

Transparency and Internet freedom is being threatened by the rise of Facebook and government attempts to control access, according to Sergey Birn, co-founder of Google.
In an interview with UK newspaper The Guardian, he said the principles of openness and universal access that underpinned the creation of the internet three decades ago are facing their greatest ever threat. He blames Apple and, overall, Facebook of attempting to erode web freedoms.
