Ukraine eyeing Dniester electric power station
Ukraine’s Fuel and Energy Ministry seeks to gain full control over the construction of the Dniester pumped-storage hydro-electric power station, replacing its current owner with the 100-percent state corporation Ukrhydroenergo, the local media reported on March 20. Moldova strongly opposes the move, as it aims at securing a stake in the energy asset to retain access to cheap Ukrainian electricity. Experts believe that if Chisinau fails to attain its goal, Russia’s major electricity import and export operator Inter RAO UES is likely to benefit from it by supplying electricity to Moldova.
