On July 4, Irish company Steorn unveiled its "clean, free and constant energy" technology that it claims could end the world's energy crisis. The company discovered the technology, which is based on the interaction of magnetic fields, when it was researching the use of wind turbines to power remote cameras, Ireland's national broadcaster RTE reported.
The company challenged scientists in an advertisement in the Economist in 2006 to test the technology and promised to publish the results, it was reported. Twenty-two of the world's leading scientists started looking into the technology in January and are due to publish their findings at the end of 2007. Meanwhile, Steorn has set up a simplified version of its power-generating device in a London museum for the public to view this July, dpa said. Steorn chief executive Sean McCarthy was quoted as saying that he will license the technology "for a nominal fee" if the scientific investigation validates it. "Steorn is taking this bold move to accelerate the deployment and acceptance of its technology for both humanitarian and commercial products," the company was quoted by dpa as saying in a statement on its website.
