European Commission President has reaffirmed his confidence in Commissioner-designate Rumiana Jeleva who found herself in political crossfire last week after allegations of conflict of interest.

Barroso, through a letter to Euroepan Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, after the latter expressed concerns,supported Jeleva's competence for the European Commissioner post. Furthermore, Barroso attached a letter from Jeleva confirming that there were no fallacies with her statements concerning Global Consult (Click here to download letter).

The affair, which saw much drama the past week between political groups in the European Parliament, and trading of insults between Bulgarian Presideng Boyko Borisov and Parliamentary Socialist leader Martin Schulz, is not over yet, as four more hearings remain before the European Commission's new synthesis can be confirmed by Parliament.

It is worth noting that the European Parliament parties that have fought hard against Jeleva, the Socialist Group and Alliance of Liberal-Democrats, together hold 268 of the 736 seats in the European Parliament, with Jeleva's European People's Party holding 265.
