Nokia on 9 November launched a charger recall spanning millions of units manufactured by Chinese component maker Byd between mid-April and early August.
The plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger’s internal components and potentially posing an electrical shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket, Nokia said in a statement, adding the company was not aware of any incidents or injuries related to the chargers.
Nokia said AC-3E and AC-3U chargers, manufactured between 15 June and 9 August, as well as AC-4U types, made between 13 April and 25 October, would be replaced.Nokia urged consumers to visit chargerexchange.nokia.com or their local Nokia website for further information.
Nokia recommends consumers with chargers within the scope of this exchange programme to stop using the charger and exchange it for a free replacement.
Reuters reported Nokia would replace about 14 million charges, with Byd covering all the costs.
