Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Zainidin Kurmanov met with Nadeem Ilahi, Chief of the International Monetary Fund’s Middle East and Central Asia Department. The outcome of the talks was a €337.5 million grant by
IMF for 17 years of cooperation, parliamentary press service said.
The speaker outlined necessity of an effective cooperation in the post-crisis period. Durign the talks, Kurmanov suggested discussion of restructuring and possible remission of Kyrgyzstan’s debts to IMF. Presently, the fund is reportedly working with the Kyrgyz government on short-term, medium-term and long-term country development programs.
The sides have discussed maintenance of the republican energy sector and socially vulnerable population amid utility hikes.
