IKEA has bought land for new sales centres in Nis, eastern Serbia and Cacak in the west and is also negotiating a purchase in Belgrade, the domestic Blic newspaper reported. The government appeared willing in principle to allow purchase of the property near a Belgrade motorway but regulations that ordain it as agricultural land would first have to be changed to allow construction, which could take 10 months, Blic said after a meeting of company and state officials. IKEA is also negotiating with the propery’s owners for the purchase, the newspaper added.
