Biomass power seals 400 mln Euro investment
Austrian company Warmebetriebe and local energy company Electrica will invest 400 million Euro in the construction of several biomass power stations with an installed output of 200 megawatts in Romania, the state-owned company strategy and development Director Bogdan Badea said on March 18. “By the end of April we will determine the project company where each of us will hold 50 percent. One installed megawatt in a biomass-fired station needs two million Euro invested,” said Badea. The installed output of the plants Electrica and Warmebetriebe intend to develop represents less than a third of the capacity of a nuclear reactor in Cernavoda- Further to this he said that, from 2008 to 2012, Electrica would invest 650 million Euro, also in mini hydro-power stations with an installed output of 50 megawatts. Electrica also informed that it had scheduled investments of 1.5 billion Lei in services offered to customers and 1.1 billion Lei in maintenance activities. It will also hold alternative energy production facilities that will amount to 350 megawatts, half of a nuclear reactor’s capacity.
