Swedish building materials maker Lindab has announced on July 6 that it will shut down its plant in Nyiregyhaza, eastern Hungary as it sees a 50 percent in sales volumes for the first half of the year, Portfolio Hungary reported. The first six months of 2009 has seen a significant deterioration in the trading conditions for Lindab’s Building Systems Division, with volumes down by about 50 percent year on year. Market conditions are expected to remain tough for the foreseeable future and in order to align capacity and reduce costs, Lindab is closing down its Building Systems production unit in Nyíregyhaza, Hungary, the company said in a statement. The production plant will be closed by the end of July 2009, but Lindab will keep open its engineering and sales offices in Nyiregyhaza and Biatorbagy, operating manager Gordon Pringle said. The annual saving is estimated at 35 million Swedish crowns (HUF 878 million) and the full effect will be substantially achieved during the third quarter of 2009.
