Commission fines for 2.5 mln Euro
Ireland is being fined almost 2.5 million Euro for failing to control its spending of EU agricultural money. The European Commission is charging the government over 200,000 Euro for overshooting financial ceilings and using EU money incorrectly. It is also forcing to the Department of Agriculture to pay 2.25 million Euro for failing to control spending of money given under a fruit and vegetable scheme. A total of half a billion euro is being claimed back by the Commission from EU member states.
