In 2009, 57 percent of the employers plan to increase salaries by 10 to 20 percent in order to keep their skilled personnel. This is what
Bojidar Danev, chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Economy (BSK), has announced. He has presented the results of a questionnaire, organized by the chamber, among business circles. One third of managers, however, have not yet decided what to do concerning remuneration. A mere 15 percent has firmly decided not to change remunerations. The business put their stakes on a reduction of work places, but at the expense of unskilled personnel. In 2008 every second employer or 51 percent of the respondents experienced a shortage of labour. Another 15 percent had problems recruiting workers to take on particular positions. More than a half “ 54 percent of employers rate 2008 as a successful year. A year earlier their share was 73 percent. There is a serious growth in the share of managers who rated the year as unsuccessful -33 percent, compared to a mere 10 percent in 2007.
