Dublin docks jobs have doubled quickly
The Dublin Docklands Authority’s 2007 annual report shows that it has assets worth just over 177 million Euro. Its main assets include Grand Canal Harbour, the CHQ building, the former Readymix site and its interest in the former Glass Bottle site at Poolbeg, the company reported. Grand Canal Harbour was responsible for most of the authority’s 30.2 million Euro in turnover last year, while it recorded a surplus of 3.7 million Euro. The DDA said this was down on 2006 because of that year’s strong sales from Grand Canal Harbour sites, as well as a significant increase in spending on regeneration of the area. DDA chairman Donal O’Connor said the number of people working in the docklands area had doubled in 10 years to more than 40,000, saying the area was now home to leading firms such as Google and O2, and was also becoming a hub for commercial law firms.
