Austria’s Erste Bank has held talks with BayernLB to sound out prospects for acquiring the German state bank, close sources. After Erste emphatically denied that an acquisition deal was in the works, sources said the chief executives of both companies had met and discussed possible takeover scenarios, but the talks had not become more concrete. BayernLB, which is owned by the state of Bavaria and local savings banks, declined to comment.
