Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu recently had a meeting with Japanese counterpart Koichiro Gemba. In the course of talks, the Turkish minister assured that his country will collaborate with Japan in the construction of a nuclear power plant despite the Fukushima disaster, Zaman reported.
“After the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, we are determined to proceed with this co-operation. Japan’s experiences will further enrich the collaboration,” he said. Citing the similarities between the two countries in the level of energy required due to their dynamic economies, the Turkish minister said that both countries have great potential to work on nuclear energy and renewable energy with similar projects. He added that Turkey and Japan are strong partners in regional issues and pay special emphasis to developing a common Asia strategy with the country.
Both ministers agreed to extend ties between Turkey and Japan into a strategic partnership and would establish a mechanism between the ministries. While commenting on bilateral economic ties, Davutoglu stressed that the sides would ink agreement to boost economic ties.
