Tajani visits Madrid to boost Spanish economy

Commission Vice-President for Industry and Entrepreneurship Antonio Tajani visited Spanish capital Madrid on 17 January for the first official meeting with the newly elected centre-right government. Tajani had a series of meetings and conferences aimed at boosting growth and competitiveness in Europe and Spain.

Tajani met Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to discuss the EU strategy for growth, with particular attention to the issue of tourism, SMEs and job-creation. The commissioner also met with Foreign Affairs Minister José Manuel Garcia Margallo, Industry, Energy and Tourism Minister José Manuel Soria, Economy Minister Luis de Guindos and Public Finance Minister Cristobal Montoro.

Commission Vice President will also participate in a high-level conference on tourism policy, which will be closed by His Majesty King of Spain Juan Carlos I. Tajani will also take part in the conference Nueva Economia on 18 January.

Tajani will have a separate meeting with His Excellency the Prince of Asturias Don Felipe de Borbón, who will open FITUR, Spain's most important tourism fair.
