Strike over at Iberia after deal with cabin crews

The cabin crews union representing 4,000 employees at the Spanish airline Iberia called off an indefinite strike action scheduled to commence in February after they reached an agreement with the airline management.

The agreement, as reported in local media, would guarantee job security for the cabin crews. Iberia reached a similar agreement with ground staff on 20 January. Workers had expressed fears of job losses resulting from the creation of Iberia Express, a low-cost short-to-medium-haul carrier, which is due to be launched on March 25.

The airline's pilots, however, held their fifth one-day stoppage on 25 January to protest the creation of Iberia Express.
